Collaboration Tools Are Critical in Distributed Team Environments

It’s hard (for some of us!) to realize that Collaboration tools have been around for over twenty years (think Lotus Notes). And during that time their use and adoption has been problematic – but we live in a world where IT project teams are often spread across multiple buildings, cities, and continents.

At least for us, it’s the exception rather than the rule when a Project Team is completely co-located. In order to run effective and efficient projects in this environment (after all, the name of our company is FitforProjects!), a Collaboration Tool of some kind is absolutely essential to project success.  These tools allow distributed teams to share knowledge, understanding, and expectations as to what has gone on, what is going on, and what needs to happen.  This is true whether the project is Agile or Waterfall.
